Agnosticism/Atheism

From Austin Cline, your Guide to Agnosticism/Atheism
Is God Required for Morality? Do We Need Objective Moral Standards?
If religious theists find that they aren't getting anywhere arguing that there can't be any moral standards without their god, they sometimes switch to arguing that without a god to provide an objective set of standards then there is no way to choose which is the best among the various human standards — why not accept Nazi standards, for example? It's a mistake to assume that only a set of objective, absolute standards can provide us with any guidance in moral matters, though.

America as a Community of the Righteous
Many Americans, mostly conservative Christians, see the United States as a quasi-religious project. According to this viewpoint, America has been ordained by God to bring the Truth and the Light to all the people's of the Earth. Of course, this necessarily means that the rest of humanity is living in darkness unless/until Americans can enlighten them.

Creationism Contradicts Known History & Geology
Young Earth Creationism is a religious ideology which insists that the Earth is only around 6,000 years old. Fortunately this form of creationism is not as popular as it once was in America, but it also hasn't entirely disappeared, either. In fact, despite its waning popularity, Young Earth Creationists may be among the most vocal and committed of all creationists because they have bought into biblical literalism completely, rejecting even allegorical readings of Genesis.

How Was Nazi Germany an Example of Christian Nationalism & Power?
Hitler and the Nazis are often cited as an example of the horrible crimes which atheists have committed in the 20th century. They are only assumed to be atheists, though, because people can't imagine Christians doing such things; in reality, Hitler explicitly appealed to Christianity on a regular basis and this was part of why he was popular. Not every Christian supported the Nazis, of course, but he was most popular with conservative Christians seeking a restoration of traditional values.
