Doria Shafik (1908-1975)

Well it is different Story Now, In 1908, Saudi Arabia didn't exist.

PLEASE SHARE. On October 28th, 2014, Saudi Authorities arrested head of the Saudi Liberal Network, Souad Hamour Al-Shammary after she was summoned to a hearing against her at the Investigation Body and Public Attorney Building in Jeddah.

The investigation was initiated after a number of clergy and religious personalities submitted a complaint against her. The prosecutor has accused Al-Shammary with the following charges:

1. Calling for women’s liberation and rebellion against clergy and the liberation of society from their power

2. Demanding the separation of society from religion

3. Classification of Saudi society in conceptual terms including masculine/patriarchal; closed, Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS affiliated (Doaashi)

4. Ridiculing religious texts such as demanding the end of male guardianship over woman and his authority over his female wards.

5. Denial of holiness of clergy.

Al-Shammary was transferred to the general prison Breman in Jeddah.

Al-Shammary is a prominent activist and advocate of human rights, especially women’s rights.

She is the first woman to plead in Saudi courts.

She holds a university degree in Islamic Law.

Working in the education sector Al-Shammary was the Head principal of Girls School in Jeddah. In addition to heading the Saudi Liberal Network (formerly head by Raif Badawi before his arrest) she is a member of the Arab Coalition for Freedom and Democracy.
