Dear Egypt, don’t attack the atheists, embrace them
Despite kicking out the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt is still riddled with barbaric intolerance, ignorance, and superstition. They focus on battling the unbelievers in rhetoric, persecution, and by making absurd minimizations of their numbers. They should embrace the nonbelievers rather than attack them. The atheists are the only ones who make sense in Egypt.
The Egyptians (like many) blindly take on the religious beliefs of their last conquerors. They’ve been conquered by the Persians, Greeks, and Romans. Each brought in their own influences. If they were last conquered by those who worshiped a man on a talking donkey, that’s what they’d be worshiping now. Instead they worship a man on a flying horse.
The Great Pyramids are the great reminder that all the gods are mortal. No one was more devout in worship, prayer and ritual than the ancient Egyptians. We revere these people as they accomplished so much and have such a rich and intact history spanning thousands of years. But it was the ancient Egyptians own religion that stopped them from ruling the world. A belief that one must be buried on Egyptian soil prevented the establishment of outposts and led to the eventual defeat by nomadic cultures.
In the evolution of religion, localized supernatural beliefs have been killed by nomadic faiths in the battle of the fittest. But the gods of the ancient Egyptians were no less imaginary that the god of the Bible and the Quran.
Today’s Egypt should embrace secular humanism. They should embrace all beliefs and establish laws where no one is persecuted or given special privilege for any particular faith. Where secular laws exist, they must be consistently enforced. They shouldn’t wage war against atheists, they should war against the barbaric and disgusting practice of female genital mutilation which runs rampant in their country. They should focus their efforts on education, science and technology.
Promote individual rights and liberties to protect against the tyranny of the majority. Promote an examined life over blind obedience to ancient myths. Question everything whether man or imaginary. Reality based thinking for a reality based world isn’t a hindrance, it’s a gift.
There are far more atheists in Egypt than the current ruling class knows or will admit to. There will always be people that don’t succumb to child indoctrination, ritual brain washing and religious insanity. Don’t punish the most intelligent in your country simply for having wits, embrace them as they hold the talent to enable a better future. Societies thrive when ideas are freely shared. Blasphemy laws encourage ignorance, corruption and intellectual stagnation.
For those wishing to rule Egypt, don’t hide behind a god. Lead forward with your own integrity and ambitious vision for Egypt’s future. Be a leader for all Egyptian citizens whether Muslim, Christian, or atheist. Move the country forward.
