Florida atheist demands godless attorney after attacking Jesus lookalike

Gustav Potthoff is accused of attacking roommate Raymond Hernandez with a butter knife because the man resembled Jesus. The Orange County suspect wants an atheist attorney so that he can be with his 'own kind.'

Orange County Jail Gustav Potthoff is accused of attacking his roommate inside an Orange County apartment because the other man resembled Jesus.

A Florida man attacked his roommate with a butter knife because the man looked like Jesus.
Now, Gustav Potthoff wants to make sure his public defender is the farthest thing from a Jesus follower.
The 51-year-old is demanding an atheist attorney.
"It's just my human rights and everything else," Potthoff told a judge on Thursday, against the advice of his public defender. "I'm allowed to be with someone of my own kind."
The attack allegedly happened inside the Orange County apartment Potthoff shared with Raymond Hernandez, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Hernandez said he was watching television in the living room when Potthoff erupted into a fury. The angry man first threw a glass cup at Hernandez, which missed and shattered against a wall. Then, Potthoff allegedly approached his roommate with the butter knife.
According to Hernandez, Potthoff threatened to kill him because he looked like Jesus.
Potthoff later changed his story, telling cops he never threw the glass.
A judge denied Potthoff’s request for an atheist attorney, saying that he would have to work with a public defender unless he paid for the attorney himself.
"It's a sacrilegious thing," Potthoff said.
